Local Horse Wins Top Dresden Dash
Donovan Z Tam bolted to victory in feature race at Dresden Raceway Sunday afternoon for owner/trainer Danny Mills of
Wallaceburg.
The four-year-old Hes Gorgeous gelding scored got away fourth for driver Marc St Louis after Bayonet and Garrett Rooney blasted to the front from post seven to take the lead, cutting fractions of 29, 59 and 1:30.1. St Louis pulled Donovan Z Tam before the quarter and started his move through the field and stepped off the last quarter in 30.2 for the four and a quarter lengths win in 2:01 flat.
The silence was deafening on the day as you could hear every hoof beat and every chirp from the drivers with no crowd at the usual boisterous facility.
St Louis who had four wins on the day said it was nice to be back at Dresden adding, “We’ve been away too long, it feels good to be doing what we love again.
The handle was down from last year’s opening day with a total off-track handle of $20,607.
“Our handle will be much higher next week,” said Announcer/PR man Gary Patterson. “We have a great product with some awesome trainers and great drivers, I promise our handle will be much better next week.”
