We Are All #Team88 – Sport As A Pathway To Reconciliation

Are you a part of Team 88?

We all need to be.

In 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada released 94 calls to action in order to “redress the legacy of residential schools and advance the process of Canadian reconciliation.”

Call to Action #88 calls on the government, at all levels, to take action to address and guarantee long term development for Indigenous athletes, including the support of the North American Indigenous Games.

Call to Action #88 reads:

We call upon all levels of government to take action to ensure long-term Aboriginal athlete development and growth, and continued support for the North American Indigenous Games, including funding to host the games and for provincial and territorial team preparation and travel.

So what does this mean? It means each and every person needs to take action to ensure a positive future for Indigenous athletes through sport, culture, and reconciliation, as well as seeing sport as a pathway to reconciliation for future generations.
