Bridget Carleton Excited For Tip Off
With tip off only hours away, Bridget Carleton is thrilled for another season of WNBA basketball to begin.
“It’s very exciting,” said Carleton. “It’s been a long time since any of us have played a game so we are all looking forward to competing again. It’s definitely not the season we were expecting but we are making the most of it.”
The 22 game season, which begins tomorrow, and Sunday for Carleton and her Minnesota Lynx is definitely a change, but it’s back to a sense of normal as well.
Carleton, who was drafted by the Connecticut Sun 21st overall last year, spent half a season with the Sun before being picked up by the Lynx.
With her second season about to begin, Carleton believes her Lynx have a strong roster.
“We have a really good mix of vets and young players, so we are really excited to see what we can do this season,” she said.
“We’ve only had a couple weeks of practice as a team so we are doing a lot of learning and figuring everything out. It’s been fun playing with this group.”
With a shortened season ahead, Carleton and the rest of the WNBA are also adjusting to life in the “bubble,” but Carleton had high praise for the WNBA and how the COVID-19 pandemic has been handled by the league while preparing for play.
“It’s different but it’s been good so far. It’s definitely a unique environment,” the Iowa State grad explained.
“Having everyone in the league essentially living in the same space. The league did a great job of creating a safe environment for us to play.”
The Minnesota open their 2020 WNBA season Sunday at 12pm against the Connecticut Sun.
