Chatham-Kent Arenas To Remain Closed Until September 1
There will be no on ice action this summer in Chatham-Kent.
Tryouts for Chatham-Kent’s top women’s and men’s minor teams are typically complete already, and Junior teams would have recently completed spring tryouts, signing a chunk of their roster.
While many teams typically hit the ice in mid-August to begin preparations for the season, that won’t be happening in Chatham-Kent either, unless something drastically changes.
Council recently approved a report from administration recommending that arenas remain closed until September 1, 2020. Additional changes to arena opening dates will have to be approved by Council.
Jeff Bray, Chatham-Kent’s Director, Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries recently sent word of this to all Chatham-Kent sports organizations.
While some areas are open for training, if they are used by Provincial or National sport organizations, Chatham-Kent’s facilities do not qualify for this.
It is unknown if Stage 3 of Ontario’s re-opening will relax rules regarding arenas and sports complexes, if and when the Province and the Municipality advance to this point.
