Chatham-Kent Council will hear the recommendation next week to open Blenheim Arena in Mid-August.

The report, prepared by Gord Quinton, Chatham-Kent’s Chief Financial Officer outlines the following:

“Recommend opening the Blenheim arena only in mid-August. Opening of remaining areas to be considered based on demand which is currently at historic low levels.”

“Open with guidelines requiring physical distancing to ensure safety of staff and patrons. Dressing rooms and canteens are closed until team play is approved. Additional Covid-19 cleaning procedures will be implemented.”

The associated cost to the Municipality to open the arena is said to be $50,000.

Traditionally, Chatham’s Thames Campus remains open through much of the summer, and Blenheim is the other area arena opened during summer months to allow for tryouts, and offseason training.

The remainder of Chatham-Kent’s arenas typically open in September.
