Chatham Y Pool Sharks Headed To Essex As CK Pools Remain Closed
Chatham-Kent’s top local swimmers will be practicing in Essex until local pools re-open.
Despite the fact Windsor-Essex was the last region in the Province of Ontario to enter Phase 3 of the pandemic re-openings, Windsor Aquatic Club competitive swimmers have had access to the Essex pool to train in for weeks.
Chatham’s Pool Sharks team is now moving to Essex to train for the remainder of August due to Chatham-Kent’s refusal to open a pool for competitive swimmers.
According to Chatham Y Pool Sharks head coach Brian Lindsay, the frustration level continues to grow amongst local swimmers and their families, as the Municipality continues to be unable to “distinguish
between recreational swim and competitive swimming.”
Due to delayed registration periods, and the continued closure of pools to competitive swimmers, most of Chatham-Kent’s elite swimmers are already practicing outside of Municipal borders, and several have reserved spaces with other regional swim teams, as the belief is Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby, will not open pools in time to allow local competitive swimmers to begin their seasons on time.
The Chatham Y Pool Sharks will begin training in Essex on August 17.
