Movement Monday: Let’s Talk Arms

On this Movement Monday, Simon from Body Language talks to us about arm movements.

Let’s talk arms!! So crucial to our day-to-day, and yet often overlooked in mat based movement classes.

Moving with arms is fun because it can be challenging, but it’s also a great opportunity to explore creatively.

The next time you practice on your mat, notice how dynamic (or not) the arm movements you practice are (note: one dynamic movement over and over again is no longer dynamic). What can you do to further explore the movement available to your shoulders and through your arms?

Tip: like elsewhere in our bodies, many of the muscles that move down our arms don’t go in a straight line, but more like a spiral. This paired with the ball and socket shoulder makes it clear that dynamic movement is what the arms are made for.
