Phil Hime, A Chatham-Kent Athlete Who Came baCK
Chatham-Kent sends athletes across Ontario, Canada, and the globe each year to compete athletically.
Sponsored by baCK to Chatham-Kent, we’ll be featuring local athletes who have left Chatham-Kent, and are now baCK, living, working, and staying connected to our own vibrant sports community in CK.
Hime raced for Windsor Bicycle Club as a teen, then Toronto’s Bloor Cycle while in college, before representing Team Ontario and Canada’s National Cycling team.
This week, we feature Chatham’s Phil Hime.
Here are Phil’s responses to our baCK to Chatham-Kent athletes interview:
1. Where did you grow up?
Chatham.
2. What is your favourite Chatham-Kent pastime?
Spending time on the Thames River either Single Scull Row boat Kayak or Paddle Board in the summer and playing hockey with Oungah Hawks in the winter.
3. What did you do after high school?
After high school went to college for 2 years and then raced bikes full time after college.
4. What are you doing now?
Now I am a Full Time Captain at Chatham Kent Fire Department and Operate Chatham Tree Services.
5. What has made you happiest, or been the best surprise about moving baCK to Chatham-Kent?
Being surrounded by family, my parents, both my kids and grandson all live in Chatham. The only one missing is my Sister and we are working on her.
6. What would you tell someone who is considering living in Chatham-Kent?
I use to say the cost of living due to the housing market but that certainly has changed a little in the last few years. The people here are awesome and if we don’t have your favourite activity here it will be a short drive away.
7. Why did you choose to move baCK to Chatham-Kent?
Family and it is home. I like Chatham Kent.
8. Describe your current sports involvement?
My sports activity would be trying to fit in a bike ride every chance I get, spending time on the river which is a gem Chatham-Kent has and hardly anybody uses it. Playing as much hockey in the winter as possible and hopefully that will continue this winter. Once in a while I try the game of golf and realize how much more I enjoy the other activities.
