Brendan Van Herk Faster Than Ever In Return To The Pool
Brendan Van Herk returned to the pool with the University of Regina of Regina Cougars, and was faster than ever, setting two personal best times.
“It’s been really nice getting back in the water,” said Van Herk, a Cedar Springs product. “I was managing a shoulder injury last year, so my season didn’t live up to my expectations. The quarantine has allowed me to get better physically and feel better mentally, so going into this year, I’ve felt as strong and confident as I ever have! I really think I can do some great things this year.”
In the University of Regina’s team time trials, Van Herk cruised to a pair of personal best times, shaving a half second off his 100m backstroke touching in 1:07.2 and a full second off his 200 IM finishing at 2:08.2.
Although nothing has been confirmed for a season, Van Herk has big goals for whenever competition does resume.
“Our varsity season hasn’t been confirmed yet, but I have a good feeling that the season will go on. If so, I’m really hoping to medal at both CanWest and USports,” he said.
“Even if the varsity season is cancelled, I’m pretty sure that Olympic Trials will continue after the postponement of the Games, so I’m hoping to make some more A finals and make some good time improvements in my best races.”
Van Herk is a UCC Lancers and Blenheim Blast alumni, and studies Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina.
