Shona Branton Hoping To Hit The Water Soon With Western

Local swimmer Shona Branton is hoping to hit the water soon with the Western University Mustangs, who she committed to earlier this year.

“I chose Western because after the first time training with the team I knew I needed to be there,” said the Wallaceburg Marlins alumni, who swam competitively in recent seasons with the Sarnia Rapids Swim Club.

With an eventual goal of making the Universaide and competing against athletes from around the world at the University level, Branton is currently training as often as she can, and getting used to being a first year university student in a new world.

“Training hard, doing whatever I can to get faster and taking this time to get to know my new teammates,” Branton said of what she’s doing in this offseason time.

Taking online and blended courses this semester, life isn’t “normal” for any student athlete, especially those like Branton who are in their first year. When swimming returns however, Branton will finally be able to hit her stride…or stroke at Western.
