CK’s Top 10 Sports Stories of 2020: #10 – Local Athletes Scooped Up In OHL Draft
The OHL Draft is annually an opportunity for the top young prospects in the province to see their hard work pay off, and to take the next step in their hockey dreams.
This year, Chatham-Kent had a strong contingent selected at the OHL Draft.
Blenheim’s Brady Stonehouse was first off the board going 26th overall, in the second round to the Ottawa 67s.
He was followed shortly thereafter by Ridgetown’s Zander Veccia. Veccia went in the third round, 43rd overall to the Mississauga Steelheads.
Both played for the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs last year.
The first and only current Chatham-Kent Cyclones player to be drafted this season was Chatham’s Ryan Gagner. Gagner went in round 6 to the Peterborough Petes.
In the OHL U18 Draft, a pair of Chatham-Kent products were selected.
Chatham’s Alex Park went 14th overall to the Windsor Spitfires, while Anthony Lucarelli went 39th overall to the London Knights.
These players, along with the subsequent commitments to Junior programs were major news makers in 2020.
