CK’s Top 10 Sports Stories of 2020: #7 Emma Negri Is A Broken Record
Over and over again Emma Negri broke Athletics Ontario records.
The young thrower was one of the most followed and most read about athletes in Chatham-Kent this year.
At first, she was breaking the records of other athletes, but as the year progressed, Negri had no one to beat but herself.
Representing the University of Windsor Athletics Club, Negri opened the year by smashing a record that had stood since 2014 in the U13 shot put division throwing 9.43m, almost half a meter farther than the previous mark of 8.95m.
In March, Negri won gold in shot put at the 2020 Athletics Ontario U14 Indoor Championship.
By July, Negri broke her own shot put record throwing 10.25m, and also set a new provincial standard in discus throwing 33.09m.
Broken record after broken record.
In September, Negri broke her own discus record throwing 34.53m.
Then in December, Negri closed out 2020 breaking her own Ontario records, not once, but twice.
She closed out the year with a 10.31m shot put mark.
Moving up to the U14 division in 2021, there will be more records to chase, and Emma Negri has left a mark on 2020 and the Athletics Ontario throwing scene.
