Hockey Canada Releases Brett Brochu
While analysts raved about Brett Brochu early in Team Canada’s World Junior Championships tryout camp, Hockey Canada thought otherwise, and released the netminder Thursday.
Brochu was one of 7 players released, including fellow goaltender Tristan Lennox.
Brochu who led the OHL in goals against average and was second in save percentage last season, set an OHL record for most wins by a rookie netminder. The London Knights backstop went undrafted in this year’s NHL Draft.
The cuts leave Canada’s goaltending situation set with the team entering the World Juniors with Taylor Gauthier (Prince George Cougars, WHL), Dyland Garand (Kamloops Blazers, WHL – New York Rangers), and Devon Levi (Northeastern, NCAA – Florida Panthers) in goal.
