In a year when regular game play has been halted, U16 ‘AAA’ teams are looking for opportunities to showcase players to OHL scouts.

The U16 Chatham-Kent Cyclones will have one of those opportunities this weekend, playing a day long showcase event against the U16 Lambton Jr. Sting.

Last weekend, the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs and London Jr. Knights held a similar event with the assistance of Alliance Hockey, which was the first of its kind for the league.

“This season has been unpredictable to say the least.  For months we have been looking at ways to provide teams with the opportunity to experience a form of competition but also ways to showcase those draft-eligible players,” said Alliance Hockey Executive Director Tony Martindale in a league news release.

“There have been many road blocks along the way but we were finally able to have all things align this past weekend in order to host some games where scouts could attend.”

Lambton and Chatham-Kent will face off at Sarnia’s Progressive Auto Sales Arena for four games, at 12:30, 2:30, 3:30, and 5:30pm.

The 2005 Cyclones feature a number of prospects who will likely be selected in the 2021 OHL Draft.
