It’s not often an NHL team makes their leading scorer a healthy scratch, but that’s exactly what Philadelphia Flyers coach Alain Vigneault did this weekend with Travis Konecny.

“I’ve been talking to the players about it for some time, areas we need to be better at, areas that we have been good at in the past,” Vigneault told media

“(Konecny) is the one tonight who is not going to play. His 5-on-5 game needs to be better in the areas that he’s aware of.”

Konecny got off to a torrid start to the season scoring a hat trick, and compiling 5 goals and 8 points. Since then, his ice time has dropped considerably, with the culmination of being a healthy scratch on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Konecny led the Philadelphia Flyers in scoring last season and represented the team at the NHL All-Star game.
