Master Sun Jung, Local Sports Legend Passes Away

Master Sun Jung of Chatham, who was a legend in the Chatham sports community for his involvement in Taekwondo passed away last week, on February 3, at the age of 62.

Master Sun held a Taekwondo 9th Dan Blackbelt registered in the Kukkiwon, and won numerous national and provincial Taekwondo championships between 1971 and 1985 in South Korea, where he was born in the city of Gongju.

Master Sun Jung immigrated to Canada in 1986, living in Chatham ever since.

He coached Team Canada and Team Ontario athletes, and was an accredited World Taekwondo Federation International referee.

Master Sun coached thousands of athletes locally at Sun’s Taekwondo School, and was President of Chatham Taekwondo.
