Shawn Connors, A Chatham-Kent Athlete Who Came baCK

This week, we feature Chatham’s Shawn Connors.Connors grew up playing hockey in Chatham-Kent, before moving on to play in the OHL for the Kingston Frontenacs. After his Junior hockey career, Connors played professionally in with the SPHL’s Fayetteville FireAntz, and then for the University of Ontario Institute of Technology men’s hockey team.
Now, Connors is back living and working in Chatham-Kent.
Here are Shawn’s responses to our baCK to Chatham-Kent athletes interview:
1. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Chatham .
Went to public school and high school in Chatham before moving away in grade 10 for hockey in Kingston, OHL.
2. What is your favourite Chatham-Kent pastime?
Favourite pastime is cooking and hanging out with friends and family.
3. What did you do after high school?
Playing hockey during high school. Went and played in the SPHL in Carolina for a bit then went to UOIT in Oshawa and played hockey for the University.
4. What are you doing now?
Now work for Diversey selling chemicals to nursing homes and hospitals and making sure everything is sanitary and making a safe place for people to live.
5. What has made you happiest, or been the best surprise about moving baCK to Chatham-Kent?
Chatham I think about the times growing up and playing minor hockey and the friends i have made during my time here. Biggest surprise is how everyone always seems to end up back here after their time away.
6. What would you tell someone who is considering living in Chatham-Kent?
Tell people that it’s a great little community where you can start a family and great sport community as well, including good schools.
7. Why did you choose to move baCK to Chatham-Kent?
Chose to come home to be close to family .
8. Describe your current sports involvement?
No real sports involvement right now . Would love to get into coaching eventually and give back and help the kids at the sport they love . I have two nephews and a niece in hockey in Corunna and they love hearing all my stories and try and follow my path.
