“Seeing how much women have impacted the sports industry throughout the past couple of years it’s inspiring” – Erin Kopinak
Erin Kopinak is an NCAA golfer from Tilbury, Ontario.
Below is Kopinak’s message about sports and to other women for International Women’s Day:
“I’ve been playing sports my whole life. With golf specifically I grew up thinking that it is a mans sport with little room for women. Today I can honestly say throughout my years of golf experience, I’ve seen first hand that there is so much room to grow as a women within this sport. While working with Golf Canada I was nervous that the women would be out numbered, but I can honestly say that was not the case. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was surrounded by strong independent women who were flourishing in the golf industry. That just made my passion for the game so much bigger. Seeing how much women have impacted the sports industry throughout the past couple of years it’s inspiring. It inspires me to still continue to push and break through barriers so that other women can have the opportunities that I’ve had. I’ll be forever grateful that I started playing golf competitively. But, I hope through this that young women are inspired to take initiative and pick up that golf club, hockey stick, basketball etc. and be determined to reach your goals no matter how high you set them.“
