“They Are Perfect The Way They Are” – Shona Branton
Shona Branton is a USports swimmer for the Western University Mustangs.
Here is Branton’s message to women and girls for International Women’s Day:
“Being a female athlete, over the years there have been a lot of ups and downs that got me where I am now. One of the biggest ones is a lot of people have said things to me like how I eat a lot for a girl. Stuff like this can be really discouraging and lead to a lot of body image issues. It wasn’t until later on I realized that being a female athlete means we need to eat more to fuel our bodies! When I was struggling with this, I wish I had someone to tell me that there’s nothing wrong with how much I eat. What I want all female athletes to know is that they are perfect the way they are, and they can do absolutely anything they set their minds to.“
