OHL Announces 2021 Start Date

The OHL has announced the start to their 2021-22 regular season is set for Thursday, October 7, 2021.

“It’s an exciting time for everyone as we turn our attention to a new season,” said Commissioner David Branch in a league news release. “We look forward to getting our players back into their OHL communities where they can continue to pursue their goals both on the ice and in the classroom.”

Training camps will start September 4, with a regular 68-game season scheduled.

“The League is currently in the process of developing a regular season schedule,” added Commissioner Branch. “Our tremendous fans mean so much to the OHL and its communities and we’re looking forward to welcoming them back into our venues next season.”

Chatham-Kent OHL veterans Grayson Ladd (Windsor), Brett Brochu (London), and Deni Goure (Owen Sound) will be back for another OHL season, while a group of rookie hopefuls including Brady Stonehouse (Ottawa), Zander Veccia (Mississauga), and Ryan Gagner (Peterborough) will attempt to crack lineups.

There is a strong likelihood of 1-2 more Chatham-Kent players making their OHL debuts this season following the June 4-5 OHL Draft.

Declan Waddick and Brayden Degelas are both highly touted prospects slated to go in the opening rounds.

David Brown, Brenden McKay, Trent Ledrew will also draw serious interest, while Tre Altiman, Jake VanCoille, Connor Tucker, and Braden Twigg are other local candidates for the 2021 OHL Draft.
