CK Mayor And Council Support Maroons Becoming Junior A
The GOJHL, including the Chatham Maroons, have been fighting for reclassification to Junior A in recent weeks.
The campaign got more support this week after Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff and Council sent a letter to the Ontario Hockey Association.
“On behalf of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Council, I would like to endorse the letter sent to you by the Chatham Jr. Maroons requesting their reclassification of status to Jr A,” Canniff wrote to the OHA.
Southwestern Ontario is the only region in the province without Junior A hockey, forcing youth to leave their homes to chase college hockey aspirations. This, despite the fact the GOJHL is of higher calibre than some “Junior A” leagues in Ontario.
