Throwback Thursday: Local Girls Finally Get A Soccer League In 1980

On this Throwback Thursday, brought to you by CK Tubs and Taps, we travel back to 1980, and a first in women’s sports in Chatham.

Yes, it took until 1980 to get a girls soccer league in Chatham.

Five year’s after the Chatham Youth Soccer Association was founded, featuring only boys teams, 85 girls signed up to play in the league’s first season.

The mosquito league (ages 10-12) was won by Feyen Construction Ltd, while the peewee league (13-18) was won by Mast Electric.

Pictured below are several members of the Feyen Contruction team during the championship game.
