Rombouts Wins Second Straight On Jamieson Tour

Karolyn Rombouts

The Jamieson Junior Tour stopped at Ambassador Golf Club for the penultimate event of the season. Fresh off hosting the Canadian Amateur Championship, the course setup challenged the players and high winds made scoring very difficult.

In the Junior Girls Division, Karolyn Rombouts (Maple City) won her second consecutive event, with a score of four-over-par 75. Rombouts bested Vanessa Ardovini (Roseland) and Hannah Butzer (Maple City) by two shots, with nines of 38 and 37. She also won the Widdifield Cup, which is awarded to the player with the lowest combined score in the Erie Shores and Ambassador events. Her total for the two days was 148 (73/75).

In the Junior Boys Division, there was an unprecedented five-way tie for first! Spencer Higginbottom (Beach Grove- 38/36), Rylan Marontate (Kingsville- 34/40), Cale Marontate (Kingsville- 35/39), Jax Sisson (Pointe West- 36/38), and Adrian Macera (Essex- 38/36) all fired scores of three-over-par 74. Cale Marontate won the Widdifield Cup with a two day total of 143 (69 at Erie Shores and 74 at Ambassador).

In the Collegiate Mens Division, Alex Saroli (Wayne State/Essex) took home the victory with a score of 76. Starting on the back nine, Saroli shot a 41, but bounced back with a score of 35 on the front. Carter Purves (Beach Grove) and Robert McVinnie (Western/Beach Grove) finished two shots behind with scores of 78.

Earlier in the week, at Erie Shores in Leamington, Karolyn Rombouts (Maple City) returned to the tour and shot a one over 73 to take the crown. Karolyn’s round included birdies on holes 7 and 9 for an outward  nine of 35. Kennedy Fremlin (Essex) and Kyla Charlebois (Pointe West) both shot  4 over par 76’s and were tied for second.

The Jamieson Junior Tour will take a two-week break before heading to Beach Grove Golf and Country Club for the season finale. Full results can be found at www.jamiesonjuniortour.ca
