Vellinga Joins St. Clair Saints Softball Team
Chatham’s Sarah Vellinga will join the St. Clair College Saints softball team after transferring from the University of Windsor after completing a bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics.
The middle infielder played locally for the Windsor Lady Expos and was a National Softball Association scholarship recipient in addition to winning a 2014 Provincial Bronze medal.
St. Clair Head Coach Doug Wiseman said, “Sarah is an excellent heads-up player who is extremely versatile. Having coached her with the Windsor Wild in 2016 I am comfortable playing her anywhere on the diamond.”
Vellinga said about her decision to come to St. Clair, “After completing my degree in Human Kinetics I knew I wanted to stay in the health field. I knew St. Clair would be a good fit for me because it is close to home and offers multiple program options.”
“My goals for the season are to come out of the gate strong and prove that we are a force to be reckoned with not only in the OCAA but nationally as well. My personal goals are to continue to improve my skills as a player, be the best teammate I can be, and to contribute to the team’s success in any way that I can,” finished Vellinga.
Vellinga will study in St. Clair’s Cardiovascular Technology program this fall.
Vellinga commented on her choice to be a at St. Clair, “Because it offered me a great opportunity to continue my post-secondary studies as well as play the sport I love. The college has a great atmosphere that makes you want to work hard and do your best while feeling at home.”
“I hope to contribute to the team and be the best teammate I can be while also becoming a better player. I want to stay on top of all my academics this year work and maintain a high average,” Vellinga said of her goals this season.
