Blades Get Opening Night Win
By Wyatt Williams
In front of a good sized crowd, the Blenheim Blades were able to come from behind to get a win in their first home game of the 2021-21 hockey season.
The visiting Petrolia Flyers had the home crowd nervous when they opened up a 2-0 lead in the third period.
The Blades were the dominant team in the first period, out shooting the Flyers by a 17-1 count. Petrolia’s goaltender Tyler Richardson had an impressive game, denying the Blades anything until midway through the third, while trailing 2-0, Tyler Ewald scored on a power play. A little less than three minutes later, with the Blades on another power play, Tate Bowden scored to tie the game at 2-2. A minute later Tate Bowden scored his second goal of the night, which turned out to be the winner.
The Flyers did not pack up their tent and go home at that point, as the Blades took a penalty with just over two minutes remaining. Petrolia was able to test Blenheim veteran goaltender Caleb Pinsonneault with a couple good scoring chances, but he held the lead. Daniel Gibson and Peyton Armitage were the goal scorers for the Flyers. The Blades out shot the
visiting team by 32-10.
