Brooks Hard To Beat For Laurier
Local soccer player Steph Brooks of Dresden has been almost unbeatable for the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks women’s soccer team.
Through five games, Brooks has a 4-0-1 record with a shutout.
“Going into training camp we knew we had a strong team the only question was whether we could bring our individual skills together. So far this season we have come out flying, the girls are hungry to win and we’ve worked really well together to get results,” said Brooks of Laurier’s strong start that has the team battling with Guelph for top spot in the OUA West.
“We’ve also been very strong defensively and I haven’t had many threats to deal with. Personally, I feel stronger mentally and physically than I have previous seasons which has helped my performance as well as the team.”
Brooks, a two-time Academic All-Canadian in her fourth year of Political Science at Laurier is happy to no just be winning, but to be back on the field in general after a year away due to COVID-19 cancelling the OUA season.
“Being back is a dream come true. Playing soccer is what I love to do so to be about to play in my last year of university is something that I am not taking for granted.”
