It’s been the story. As much for the sports it took away, as the sports coming back.

COVID-19 left us without sports for the first half of the calendar year. It wasn’t until the summer months that we saw soccer and baseball return, and other sports like rugby and football coming back in modified forms and leagues.

Locally however, we missed entire seasons from some of our top teams including the Chatham Maroons and Wallaceburg Red Devils.

As Fall rolled around, hockey and basketball were the next to come back, and it started to feel like sports were here to stay.

Of course there were changes – capacity limits, vaccination requirements, masking for fans, and reduced travel, but sports were, and are, back.

Here’s hoping we can wipe COVID-19 from our story list for 2022.
