#5 Brochu Can’t Be Beat – CK’s Top 10 Sports Stories of 2021
When the OHL cancelled their 2020-2021 season, it didn’t look like Brett Brochu would be able to follow up on his memorable rookie campaign with the London Knights.
He soon however, was signed as the third goalie for the AHL’s Wilkes/Barre Scranton Penguins. He spent the majority of the season practicing and on the bench backing up the Penguins’ starter, but in May, Brochu made his professional debut.
He became the youngest player ever to suit up for AHL Penguins.
The Hockey News called Brochu a top overage prospect for the NHL Draft and found himself on Central Scoutings rankings, but he still went unselected.
When the new 2021 season started, Brochu got off to a blistering start earning OHL Goaltender of the Month honours before being named to Team Canada’s World Junior Hockey Championship roster.
What a year.
