#9 Draft Day Calling – CK’s Top 10 Sports Stories of 2021
Chatham-Kent has been producing OHLers with consistent success in recent years, and this season, three CK products were picked in the OHL Draft.
Declan Waddick was the first off the board, going in the second round, 39th overall to the Niagara IceDogs. Waddick made the team in training camp and although he’s struggled to produce in his rookie OHL season, he is playing in Ontario’s top league as a 16-year-old.
Brayden Degelas and David Brown also heard their names. Degelas went 107th overall to the Sarnia Sting, while Brown went 135th overall to the Saginaw Spirit. Both players signed in the GOJHL, Degelas with Sarnia and Brown with Chatham, and were having solid rookie seasons.
Last year’s OHL Draft picks who missed what could have been their rookie year – Brady Stonehouse, Zander Veccia, and Ryan Gagner – all got off to good starts in the OHL.
