The Blenheim Blades could have used some spark from their power play against the visiting Essex 73’s this week. Blenheim could only cash in once on their power play in eight attempts.

It was a night where some strange bounces and turnover ended up in the Blades. The teams were scoreless after one period but early in the second
the 73’s would benefit from a quirky puck that ended up behind Blades goalie Caleb Pinsonnault, who ended up out of position and could not
prevent the goal. Essex then reeled off two more goals before Blenheim’s
Tyler Ewald was able to reply at 14:46 of the second.

In the third Essex would score at 9:59 to go up 4-1. The Blades finally scored on the power play, when Tate Bowden got a shot past Essex net minder Adrian McBride at 17:36. With Pinsonneault on the bench for the extra attacker Essex Riley Pawluk fired a puck from his end, that ended up hitting the mark to squash any hopes of a comeback.

The final score ended at 5-2. The 73’s got goals from Conor Dembinski, Everett parent Jake Fields and a pair for Riley Pawluk.

The Blades next have the unfavourable task of facing the Lakeshore Canadiens this Sunday in Blenheim.
