Eddie Wright Inducted To UB Athletics Hall of Fame
Chatham’s Ed Wright was honoured Friday night in Buffalo, a part of the 2022 induction class for the Dr. Edmond J. Gicewicz Family UB Athletics Hall of Fame.
After graduating from Boston University in 1970, Wright became the head coach for the State University of New York in Buffalo’s men’s hocey team. As head coach, Wright collected a record of 133-130-6.
His role as head coach made Wright the first ever Black coach in NCAA hockey history.
Wright would later retire from coaching to work as a director of recreation at the school, and also as a scout for the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks.
