Book Featuring Local Sport Available For Pre-Order
Chatham-Kent writer Ian Kennedy is set to release his first book this May titled On Account o Darkness: Shining Light on Race and Sport.
The book, which will be published by British Columbia’s Tidewater Press, is now available for pre-order.
The book discusses issues of racism and oppression, and the role of sport in both combatting these issues, and perpetuating them. On Account of Darkness features never before seen interviews and stories about local athletes and teams including Fergie Jenkins, Bob Izumi, the Chatham Coloured All-Stars, Ed Pinnance, Mel and Herb Wakabayashi, Vicky Sunohara, Breanne Nicholas, Bill Sands, Cheryl Tooshkenig (Mitchell), Gord Peters, Pliney Stonefish, and many more.
The book shows Chatham, Dresden, Blenheim, Buxton, Wallaceburg, Walpole Island First Nation, and Delaware Nation as representative of Canada and Canadian athletes.
