Wallaceburg Thunderhawks Make Playoffs, First Appearance Since 2011
The Wallaceburg Thunderhawks snapped a more than decade long playoff drought securing their spot this weekend with a 7-6 overtime win over the Dresden Kings.
Tied entering the game for the 8th and final playoff spot, Wallaceburg’s Jacob VanCoille lifted the Thunderhawks on his back scoring a hat trick, and two assists, including the overtime winner.
The extra point moved Wallaceburg ahead of Dresden. The Kings had a final chance to regain the 8th spot, but fell 5-1 to the Mooretown Flags Saturday.
Wallaceburg was last in the postseason in 2010-2011 as part of the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League as the Wallaceburg Lakers.
Wallaceburg will open the PJHL Stobbs Division playoffs against the first place Lakeshore Canadiens Friday, March 11 on the road before hosting Lakeshore Saturday, March 12 at 7:30pm at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.
