Bechard Receives Sportswoman of the Year Honours From Guelph

Dover Centre’s Burke Bechard received a major award to close out her University of Guelph Gryphons athletic career being named Guelph’s W.F. Mitchell Sportswoman of the Year.

“For the past five years, Burke has been the heart and soul of the Gryphons women’s basketball team on the court and in the community, with the fifth-year psychology major capping off her career with an impressive senior season where she finished top two in the OUA in points per game, field goal percentage, and 3-point percentage. For a third straight year, Burke earned OUA all-star status after being named an OUA West First Team All-Star. The 23-year-old native of Dover Centre, Ontario, who led her team to a playoff berth in each of her four seasons of on-court action, also became just the third Gryphons women’s basketball player in program history to receive the OUA’s Joy Bellinger Award for her outstanding career contributions to OUA basketball.“
