Red Devils Win A Thriller

By Wyatt Williams

When it comes to sports entertainment for your hard earned dollars, junior lacrosse is hard to beat. And todays game in Wallaceburg between the Devils and St. Catharines Athletics was spectacular.

The game required a 10 minute overtime period to determine a winner, with Devils Tanner Cole scoring a highlight reel , behind the back , top corner goal with 2.5 seconds remaining to give the home team a 9-8 win. Red Devil goaltender Cecil Jacobs was outstanding and was selected as the number one star of the game. His counterpart in the other end, Oliver Vanyo also played a strong game and was selected as the 2nd game star.

The lead changed hands several times , but at no time did anyone have more than a two goal cushion, which makes a very entertaining game for the fans, which by the way there were 534 in the old barn. Wallaceburgs Kaelen Smith had a 3 goal night, with a pair of goals going to Tanner Cole, Riley Roe and Ty Myers. The Athletics spread their scoring around , single for Ryan Andrews, Christian Lefeuvre, Jack Parker, Jaden Patterson, Lucas Briscall, Liam Dietsch, Daniel Kennedy and Nolan Fehr.

The Red Devils now have a pair of wins and losses. They next face the London Blue Devils Friday, May 6 in Lambeth.

They then return home on Sunday May 8, 4pm for a game with Welland. You really should try and get to catch a game, I think you will enjoy.
