Chatham-Kent has its first Canadian National Jiu Jitsu team member. Rain Pfaff of Armstrong Academy of Martial Arts will represent Canada in the women’s 70+ division at the JJIF World Championships taking place October 25, 2022 in Abu Dhabi.
Pfaff competed in the Canadian National Jiu Jitsu Championships on June 12 in Brampton, Ontario in the Adult Advanced (Purple/Brown/Black belt) division. In her first match she face Chelsey Livingstone (Brown Belt) of Osman Jiu Jitsu and defeated her by lapel choke. As the event was a double elimination format, Chelsea Livingstone went on to defeat Patricia Vandermeer (Black Belt) of 5th Dimension Training Academy with a 4-0 score, thus placing her back into the finals with Pfaff. In the finals Rain Pfaff defeated Livingstone once again with a final score of 7-0, winning her Gold and a spot on the Canadian National Team.
A Kids Jiu Jitsu Festival was tied in with the Nationals, where Isabelle Armstrong won Gold in the Teen advanced (Yellow belt+) division.
