McPherson Among Netminders Invited To Canada’s National Team Women’s Camp

Jessie McPherson of Chatham was among the 142 players invited to attend Hockey Canada’s BFL National Women’s Program selection camp. The camp will run from August 3-14 in Calgary bringing together athletes vying for spots on Canada’s National Women’s Team, Canada’s National Women’s Development Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team.

“This is a great opportunity to bring all three groups together in one place and start to envision what the next four years will look like,” said Gina Kingsbury, director of hockey operations with Hockey Canada in a news release. “We are coming off a very successful season and we are looking to continue building on that.”

McPherson recently finished her sophomore season with the NCAA’s University of Vermont where she collected a 1.97 GAA and .919 save percentage in 22 games played.

In her rookie season, McPherson, who is a Chatham Outlaws and Chatham-Kent Cyclones alumni was named Team MVP and Hockey East Rookie of the Year.

Other netminders in attendance include Olympians Ann-Renée Desbiens, Emerance Maschmeyer, and Kristen Campbell, as well as Ève Gascon who played in the QMJHL this season.

McPherson has represented Team Canada in the past with their U-18 team.
