The Wallaceburg Thunderhawks have been sold to Walpole Island First Nation.

Tyler Jacobs is slated to serve as Team President, while Louie Blackbird will be Vice President and was named the new head coach.

Blackbird played Junior C in Wallaceburg, and on Walpole Island, while also spending time in the OHL during his playing career. Blackbird has served as a head coach in Wallaceburg’s minor hockey system winning an OMHA title, and as an assistant with the Thunderhawks.

The team plans to remain in Wallaceburg next season. Walpole Island was home to a dominant Junior C team in the 1990s known as the Walpole Island Hawks.

Last season, Wallaceburg made the playoffs for the first time in a several years finishing eighth in the nine team PJHL Stobbs Division.
