U16 Cyclones Have Strong Opening Weekend
By Matt Pepper
The U16 Chatham – Kent Cycles gave a strong effort in their opening weekend with a back – to – back with the Cambridge Hawks to being their 2022 – 2023 campaign.
Chatham – Kent opened the season with a 3 – 2 win on Saturday night and then followed it with a 3 – 3 tie on Sunday.
The Cyclones had strong efforts from forwards Paiton Deshangher, Derek Nevills, and Captain Lucas Laprise. All found the scoreboard this weekend
Deshangher has a non – stop motor, plays a fiery game, and is one of the quickest players on the ice. Nevills use his size and strength to his advantage, and Laprise has a solid game at both ends of the rink, including a strong penalty kill and was relentless in blocking shots from Cambridge.
Cambridge saw strong efforts from forward Jordan Charron and and defenseman Jack D’Arcy. Charron in particular was a dominant force on the ice and was a threat every time he touched the puck. With very little holes in his game, the Cyclones had their hands full with him. D’Arcy was a solid presence on the blue line, pushing the play and getting back defensively breaking up plays.
Both teams now move onto the Wendy Dufton Tournament in London next weekend.
