Legendary Coach Ingrid Lahey Passes Away
The entire Chatham-Kent sports community is mourning following the loss of legendary coach Ingrid Lahey, who passed away at home December 18 at age 73.
As Lahey’s obituary reads, “Ingrid was a much-loved teacher-coach, coaching major champions in 3 sports, volleyball, basketball, and badminton. She played volleyball for over 30 years and coached it for 45 years. She was the female athlete of the year at the U. of Windsor 1970-71. Ingrid was co-founder of the still-running Ballhawks Volleyball Club’75 and of the Spring Boys Volleyball League. She was twice inducted into the Wallaceburg Hall of Fame.”
In Chatham, Lahey co-founded the still successful Chatham Ballhawks club which has graduated dozens of athletes to college, university, and professional volleyball from Chatham-Kent.
More importantly, Ingrid was the loving wife of Dale, and mother to Cory and Scott.
