Maroons hammer Legionnaires 8-1
The Chatham Maroons are now in sixth place in the GOJHL Western Conference after crushing the Legionnaires 8-1 in Sarnia on Thursday.
Brendan Gouin (6) started the scoring for the Maroons 3:06 into the first with an assist from Blain Bacik (16).
David Brown (15) scored the second goal and game-winner for Chatham, with Julien Gervais recording his 30th assist and Conner Paronuzzi his 10th assist at 3:50.
Sarnia’s Jaxon Priddle brought the Legionnaires within one point on a power play at 1:25 of the second period. Jerome Emmett Pegrum and Ryan Richardson assisted on the goal.
The rest of the period belonged to the Maroons with Connor Paronuzzi scoring his fourth of the season at 1:38 and David Brown (89) assisting.
Connor Dvorak(13) increased the Maroon’s lead to 4-1 on a shorthanded unassisted goal at 9:34.
The Maroons chased starting Sarnia goaltender Logan Phillips when Julien Gervais scored his 17th goal with Joshua Liu (1) and David Brown (18) assisting at 10:53.
Brayden DeGelas made it 6-1 when he scored his 15th with Nate Dowling (7) and Noah Mathieson (17) assisting at 14:31.
The Maroons went into the second intermission leading 7-1 after Joshua Lepain(4) scored with assists by Rorey Elson(4) and goalkeeper Brett Fullerton (1) assisting at the 16:47 mark of the period.
Tyler Trealout’s first GOJHL goal came on a power play at 19:01 with Connor Paronuzzi(11) and Joshua Liu (2) picking up the assists making the final score 8-1.
Sarnia goalie Ethan Everaert stopped 15 of 18 shots in relief of Phillips
Chatham outshot Sarnia 41 to 32.
Chatham went one for five with Sarnia going one for eight on the power play.
Fullerton improved his record to six wins, five losses and one OT loss on the season.
The Maroons will host the first-place London Nationals Sunday night at Memorial Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
