Maroons top Legionnaires 4-1

Brayden Degelas scored two goals against his former team and Trevor Heslop stopped 29 of 30 shots as the Maroons defeated the Sarnia Legionnaires 4-1 Sunday night at Chatham Memorial Arena.

Julien Gervais (13) opened the scoring on a power play goal at 2:52 of the first period with assists going to Liam Doyle(24) and Connor Paronuzzi (7).

The Maroons fired 20 shots at Sarnia goaltender Ethan Everaert, while Heslop stopped all 12 shots by the Legionnaires In the first period.

Degelas scored his 13th of the season at the 15 second mark of the second period with David Brown(15) assisting on the goal.

Chatham went ahead 3-0 at the 1:47 mark as Jaxen Fortier-Smith scored his seventh of the season. Connor Paronuzzi (8) picked up his second assist of the game on the goal while Julien Gervais picked up his Team leading 30th assist of the season. Gervais moved into a sixth place tie in the GOJHL scoring race with 30 points.

The Maroons outshot the Legionnaires 21-10 in the second period.

Heslop lost his shutout bid at the 2:08 of the third as Jace McGrail(6) scored a power play goal. Josh Glavin(11) and Landon Marcy (4) assisted on the Sarnia goal.

Degelas (14) recorded his second of the night as the Maroons made it 4-1 at the 5:55 mark of the third with Rorey Elson (4) and Brendan McKay (7) picking up assists on the power play goal.

Chatham had 15 shots in the third for a three period total of 56 shots. Sarnia was limited to eight shots in the period for a total of 30 shots.

The sixthplace Maroons improved their record to 16-14-2-1 with the eighth place Legionnaires dropping to 9-21-4-0 .

Chatham travels to Leamington to take on the second place Flyers Thursday night before returning home to host the fourth place LaSalle Vipers.

Heslop was named the Maroons player of the game improving his record to five wins and three losses.
