Maroons edge Nationals 6-5

The Chatham Maroons took over the sole position of fifth place in the Western Conference of the GOJHL defeating the London Nationals 6-5 in London Wednesday night.

The teams were tied at two a piece at the end of the first period. At the end of 40 minutes, the Maroons lead 3-2. They scored three each in the third.

The Nationals scored two late power-play goals and one with their goaltender pulled at 19:27 in the third to make the game closer than it really was.

Connor Paronuzzi (6) scored twice and added two assists(17) en route to a four-point night.

Maroons goaltender Luka Dobrich stopped 35 of the Nationals’ 40 shots for the win.

Nate Dowling (5) scored twice while David Brown (18) and Brendan Gouin (7) picked up one goal each.

Julien Gervais (34) and Liam Doyle (28) each had two assists with Noah Mathieson (20), Brayden Degelas (24) and Trevor Trealout (3) picking up one assist each.

Chatham outshot London 41 – 40 and scored three times on 5 power play opportunities. The Nationals were two for five.

The Maroons head into their game Sunday, February 5 against the first-place Leamington Flyers with a two-game winning streak. Game time is 7 p.m. It’s also Chatham Ringette Night.
