This past weekend Jillian Vickery of Chatham-Kent was officially signed to play rugby with the Conestoga Condors.

Vickery started her rugby career with the UCC Lancers in Grade 9. Coach Jeff Phaneuf identified her rugby potential early when he watched Vickery’s aggressive nature on the basketball court as a Chatham-Wildcat.

After playing one year for coaches Phaneuf and Morkin, Vickery played for the Kent Havoc 15s and London St. George 7s. It was there that she was recruited to play for the Ontario Junior Blues.

While the COVID-19 pandemic hindered her travel with the Ontario team, Vickery stayed committed to her training, travelling twice a week to Guelph.

When Vickery was accepted to Conestoga College for Interior Decorating and Visual Merchandising, she learned that they had lost their rugby coach. She trained over the last year and, with a new coach in place, she was offered a contract and academic scholarship.

We wish Jillian all the best as she continues with her bright future.
