Local Track and Field athlete places first in U.S. championship event
Chatham-Kent native Payton Sabourin took first place in 400-metre hurdles at the Conference Championships in Youngstown, Ohio this past weekend.
Sabourin, a former Chatham-Kent Secondary School student, was the fastest qualifier in the preliminary heats of the 400M hurdles and then won the event on Sunday with a personal best time of 1:00.28.
She also anchored the school’s 4x400m relay team who won the title and set a school record.
Sabourin is currently a Senior at Oakland University and is part of the school Track and Field team in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Her Division 1 school competes in the Horizon League.
