2023 Jack Parry Award Winners Recognized

Two graduating high school students have a little spring in their step this morning after being named the 2023 Dr. Jack Parry Award winners.

This year’s honours, recognizing the top student-athletes in Chatham-Kent, went to Sam Lozon of Ursuline College and Ashton Vink from Wallaceburg District Secondary School.

Lozon expressed how honoured she was to be among such a strong group of nominees.

“When I was hearing the biography of each nominee, I was like ‘WOW’. To have been among those nominees was an honour in itself and I feel bad for those who had to choose because it must have been very difficult.”

Vink, who becomes the first male recipient of the Dr. Parry Award to hail from Wallaceburg in 25 years, explained what it feels like to see all of his hard work pay off

“It means everything. To create a goal like this. How great this award, all the respect that comes with it and all the hard work you have to do to win this award. To actually be at this point and be the winner, I can’t explain it.”

Ashton will be attending Lambton College in the fall to study Instrumentation Control while Sam has accepted her offer to McGill University to study Bio-Medical Sciences in hopes of pursuing a career in the medical field.

The two Dr. Jack Parry winners receive a $1,000 gift from the Parry family. The runners-up each receive $250 from sponsors Kim and Rob Nelson and TekSavvy.
