Dr. Jack Parry Award Nominees — Abel Wieler

Leading up to the annual Dr. Jack Parry Awards ceremony on June 15, CKSN will celebrate Chatham-Kent’s top student-athletes by featuring each local school’s nominees for 2023.

Abel Wieler

Abel embodies the qualities of a student-athlete. He has competed in multiple sports at the school level such as volleyball, basketball, and badminton while maintaining an 85% and above average throughout his four years at Blenheim District High School.

He was part of a junior LKSSAA and SWOSSA championship team in volleyball and captained the senior team. He has been active in community sports, playing baseball as well. He is dedicated and hardworking, never missing a practice or a game and balances academics, athletics, and work.

He is an active volunteer within the school and community. His participation in youth events from scorekeeping to teaching Sunday school in his church provide a positive example for youth in the community and a worthy nominee for this award.

Since 1994, Chatham Kent has recognized the top male and female graduating student athletes in each school. At the annual ceremony recognizing these top graduates, one male and one female are awarded the Dr. Parry Award along with a post secondary scholarship.

The award recognizes a balanced high degree of athletic ability, scholastic excellence, and contributions outside of the classroom to the school and community — a balance Dr. Parry himself embodied during his illustrious life.
