Wallaceburg shines at Lacrosse in Ontario Championships
The Ontario Lacrosse Festival saw several Wallaceburg teams win gold last week.
Wallaceburg picked up 4 gold medals at the event.
U9 Girls won gold.
U17 Girls won gold
U22 Girls won gold
and the U22 Boys won gold in a unique way….
In the tournament –
Wallaceburg U22 Boys played The Stayner Hitman in game one, and with a late goal, the Stayner Hitman won 3-2.
In Game 2, Wallaceburg defeated The Midland Titans 12-4 to advance to the playoffs.
In the playoffs, Wallaceburg played a tough game, but lost to the Peterborough Lakers 9-6. The Griffins team left the arena feeling defeated, and thinking they were on their way home.
That night, just before 11pm, they received a message from officials, that the Peterborough Lakers had ineligible player(s) in the game, and their game was defaulted, and Wallaceburg would be awarded a spot in the Semi Finals.
Wallaceburg had to prepare for their next game at 9am the next day against the West Grey Rampage. Wallaceburg held on to win that game 5-4.
In the finals they faced the first team they played in the tournament the Stayner Hitman.
This time, the Wallaceburg Griffins came out victorious, winning 5-4, and securing the gold medal.
