Chatham Maroons Prepare For Upcoming Season

The Chatham Maroons are set to kick off the regular GOJHL season this weekend.

Maroons Coach Richard Santos said he’s excited for the upcoming season.

“I think you’re going to see a team that’s going to come out and compete every night. We’re going to be a hard working team that plays every 200 feet of the rink,” he said.

With only six players returning from last season, Santos said the Maroons will have a new look.

“You’re going to see a lot of new faces on the team, and you’re going to see a much bigger team too,” he said. “We’re a little bit stronger this year. I think we’re going to be able to move the puck a little bit quicker and bang bodies a little bit more.”

Santos added that his goal for the team this year is to make them stronger defensively.

For this year’s season, the fans will be a big part of Maroons success, Santos said.

“I think the fans are going to be very important for us this year. I think they’re going to come out and support these guys, fall in love with some of these kids that love to play that old school hockey, dump the puck into the corner and bang some bodies.”

The Maroons will kick off their season Sunday, September 17 against the Strathroy Rockets at home.
