Blain starts season with a first-place finish

Chatham’s Ayden Blain had a strong start to his track and field season.

Blain, a hurdler on the Western Mustangs track team, won the men’s 60 metre hurdles in a strong time of 8.39 at the 48th annual Bob Vigars Season Opener held Dec. 2 in London.

Blain finished 0.01 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Colton Spencer from Brock University.

Blain finished first in his qualifying heat with a time of 8.48 seconds.

Blain was the male 2022 Jack Parry Scholarship winner. He was a multisport athlete at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

Camille Blain, Ayden’s older sister, competed at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville season opener meet also on Dec. 2, for the Quinnipiac University track and field team. She finished sixth in the finals in the 60 metre hurdles with a time of 9.57 seconds. She was fourth after the preliminaries, with a time of 9.52 seconds.

Blain was a five-time OFSAA medalist at CKSS and was the 2020 female Jack Parry winner.
